Flamin'Fury(R) PF- 24C- "Cold Hardy" Peach
Prunus persica 'Flamin'Fury(R) PF- 24C- "Cold Hardy"'
- Summary
- Hardiness Zone & More
- » Flamin'Fury(R) PF-24C- "Cold Hardy" Peach is reported to be very hardy and frost tolerant.
Flamin'Fury® PF 24C-Cold Hardy Peach is touted by its breeder as being one of the most cold hardy and frost resistant peaches he has ever seen. It has attractive large, red fruit that have excellent flavor and quality. We have been getting good reports out of colder areas where peach are not usually succesful that PF24C-Cold Hardy is surviving the cold winters. However, since it is still such a new peach, we cannot claim it to be hardy to Zone 4. The severe winters of 2012-2015 have taken a toll on peaches and even PF 24C-Cold Hardy has had trouble. So, we do not suggest it be planted outside a Zone 5 at this time. If planted in a Zone 4 you are going to be testing it, and in a Zone 3 I think NO peach will survive.
Grandpa was also good friends with the breeder of all the famous Flamin'Fury® peaches, who was another peach grower living near Grandpa and a cousin to the breeder of the Stellar® peaches. Paul Friday, thus "PF", continues to select peaches to this day, which Grandpa's son helps to evaluate every summer, looking for the best new peach varieties.
